Today is the Sydney International Spa & Beauty Expo! I’m attending as “media” (heh, now I feel all fancy), so I’ll be sure to take loads of photos of any new and exciting products.
Continuing on from part 1 of my swatches of the Shades of Phoenix “In A World Of My Own” collection, here are the final 3 shades in this collection.
Who’s Been Painting My Roses Red? is a rich red jelly base filled with red micro glitter and a duochrome red to green shifting shimmer. You know that I absolutely love anything with hidden shimmer, and my only complaint about this is that I wish it had more glitter in it. I layered 3 coats over OPI Red to get the glitter density I wanted. It flowed easily upon application and dries smoothly on its own (although I did use a top coat in this swatch out of habit).
Do You Suppose She’s A Wildflower? is a pastel orange jelly with matte yellow, orange and red hexes, and peach and red flower glitter. I foolishly attempted to gain full opacity on its own because I couldn’t find matching undies that weren’t also jellies… So this is 4 coats, with top coat. As expected, I had to fish for the flowers and wait longer between coats to avoid dragging, but that’s nothing out of the ordinary for this type of polish.
Wow… That little guy’s as high as a kite. Twinkle Twinkle Little Bat is a mix of lavender, dark purple and teal stars, and teal bar glitter in a very lightly tinted cloudy aqua base. The glitter in this tended to sink and it was quite sparse, so fishing and dabbing was required. Purple and teal is one of my favourite colour combinations! This is 2 coats over Ulta3 Get Teal, with top coat.
Overall, I like the variety in this collection. Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland (both the book and the various film interpretations) is filled with such fantastic imagery, that you know any collection inspired by it will be equally colourful and interesting. Shades of Phoenix has done an admirable effort in managing to capture the essence of its source in these 7 polishes. My picks are Curiouser & Curiouser, We’re All Mad Here, Who’s Been Painting My Roses Red?, and Do You Suppose She’s a Wildflower?.
The release date for this collection is September 3rd at 7pm AEST, from the Shades of Phoenix etsy store. If you’re extra keen there is a very limited pre-order on August 27th at 7pm AEST, which includes a free set of handmade polish earrings of your choice plus free shipping.
