I’m excited to introduce the new collection from Pretty Serious, launching today: They Came From Beyond Space! Part II: Destroy All Planets. Phew, that was a mouthful! This collection consists of 8 textured polishes.
Textured polishes have been on the scene for a little while now (OPI Liquid Sands, Zoya Pixie Dusts, etc), but this is the first I recall seeing from an indie brand. I’ve been a bit slow on the uptake with getting into this whole trend. The only other textured polish I own is OPI Alcatraz Rocks, and I love it. These look stunning in the bottle, so I was excited to see how they would translate onto the nail.
All swatches in this post are 2 coats, unless otherwise mentioned, and left to dry for approximately 10 minutes. All top-coated swatches are with 2 coats of Seche Vite. The formula on all of these polishes was extremely smooth and easy to apply.
Cosmic Comet is a shimmering lavender mixed with silver and small silver hexes.
Deep Space Destroyer is a dusty mint green with silver and small silver hexes.
Warp 11 is a pale periwinkle sky blue mixed with silver and small silver hexes.
Robot Monster is a slightly taupe charcoal mixed with silver and small silver hexes.
Surfing Alien is a super sparkly silver, sprinkled with small silver hexes. This swatch is 3 coats.
Dimension X is a champagne gold mixed with silver and small silver hexes.
Starship Doom is metallic pewter. I generally don’t like the look of textured polishes without glitter, but the shimmer in this stops it from looking flat. This swatch is 3 coats.
Menace from Mars is a metallic red. As with Starship Doom, the shimmer gives it some dimension.
Textured polish takes a little bit of getting used to. I kept wanting to run my fingers over my nails to feel the bumps, but it didn’t annoy me as much as I thought it would. I actually really like the effect it gives – sort of a velvety, suede, not quite matte look. Removal was only slightly more difficult than a creme polish, and nowhere near as hard as regular glitter removal. In addition to that, the lasting power is brilliant! I wore Menace from Mars for 4 days with only the very minorest of tipwears, and that was throughout a thorough spring clean of my house where I was pretty tough on my hands.
So, am I a texture polish convert? Do I think they compare to their beauty in the bottle? Yes, and yes. I love that they can be worn alone or with top coat. Part of me wishes Pretty Serious had really gone out on a limb and created texture polishes with crazy colour combinations, but I’m also glad that this collection includes a wide spectrum of versatile shades. My must-haves are Cosmic Comet, Warp 11, Robot Monster, Dimension X and Menace from Mars.
The They Came From Beyond Space Part II: Destroy All Planets collection is available right now from the Pretty Serious website, with international shipping.
