I can’t believe it’s October already, which means it’s time for Halloween collections! Pretty Serious’ Monster Mash collection last year was pretty amazeballs, so I had high expectations for this year’s collection. It came with a bit of a twist though; Kaz and Ben (the creators of Pretty Serious) actually got married last weekend (congrats, guys!). It was a horror-themed wedding with the most amazing wedding cake I have ever seen, and a set of 4 polishes created specially as wedding favours for the guests. Because of this, there are actually two mini-collections released for Halloween – the Till Death Do Us Party! wedding polish set, and the Killer Fangirls collection.
You can find the Till Death Do Us Party! collection review here, but for now, strap yourself in for the Killer Fangirls collection.
Each one comes with a signed art card from the Leigh Young, the extremely talented artist who does the artwork for Pretty Serious. The art cards feature a pinup for each of the horror franchises the polishes are based on. They’re adorable!
They also come in the special holographic Halloween themed boxes that last year’s collection came in:
All three polishes, like the Hit The Road collection, are inspired by a horror movie. I’m not really a horror fan myself (I couldn’t sleep without a night light for a month after watching The Ring as a kid) so unfortunately I haven’t seen any of these movies… So I won’t be able to give you much backstory about any of them! But I can definitely tell you all about the polishes themselves
Haddonfield is a sheer orange jelly base with two sizes of vibrant orange glitter and black shards. At first I thought with the sheerness of the base it wouldn’t be opaque, but the glitter is dense enough. The sheer base allows the glitter to shine through and doesn’t cover it up. The formula is really good, smooth and easy to apply, and it dries surprisingly smooth as well. This is 3 coats with top coat.
Elm Street is a dark burgundy jelly base with green and red bar and small hex glitter. It actually feels quite Christmas-y to me! The formula was a little thick and slightly clumpy, but nothing unmanageable. I used 3 coats here with top coat for full opacity, but it could be opaque in 2 coats.
Crystal Lake is my favourite from this collection, but of course I always prefer the blue polishes! It’s an enchanting , shimmery mix of multiple sizes of bright blue glitters in a clear base, scattered with hex glitters with a pastel iridescent sheen. It’s just beautiful. It sort of reminds me of A England She Walks In Beauty, in that it’s a complex foily, shimmery base that looks very busy. It can be opaque in 3 coats:
But personally, I prefer it layered over black:
Whichever way you choose to wear it, it’s super sparkly!
The Killer Fangirls collection is available now via the Pretty Serious website with international shipping available. They are AU$9.95 each, with a discounted set available for $26.85. The art cards are only available while stocks last so if you want them, you’d better order quickly!
