I picked up these MAC Pearlglide Intense Eyeliners as part of the limited edition Archie’s Girls collection, but I believe they’re also part of the permanent range. When I bought them I was kind of in my anti-pencil eyeliner phase, having just discovered my HG liquid liner (Stila Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eye Liner), so it was a complete spur of the moment impulse purchase. But I am so glad I picked them up, because they have catapulted me straight back into love with pencil eyeliners.
These aren’t your traditional pencil/kohl liners though – the Pearlglide formula is so rich and creamy that I would say it’s more like a highly pigmented cream eye shadow condensed into pencil form. One swipe gives intense colour which can be smudged for a smokier look, if desired, before it sets. The setting time is a couple of minutes… And once it sets, it’s not going anywhere until makeup removal time. I get a full day’s worth of wear without any fading; however, I did notice some slight transferring into my eyelid crease and a bit of fallout. I imagine this can be remedied with a good eye primer.
One downside is that they’re so soft that they trade intensity for a sharp line. Even when fully sharpened I found they were prone to breaking off at the tip, and tend to smudge if you apply too much pressure.
I have three colours:
- Lord It Up is a warm brown with golden copper glitter.
- Petrol Blue is a cool, deep navy with sapphire glitter.
- Black Swan is a blackened graphite with silver glitter.
The glitter in these are very small, and slightly chunkier than a straight shimmer. They catch the light with a beautiful sparkle, but they are also subtle enough for daytime wear. I love wearing these when I want something with a bit more pop than a plain eyeliner, without going all the way to glittery eyeshadow.
