Yes, it’s that time of year again! In these months leading up to Christmas, brands start releasing limited edition Christmas themed products left, right and center, wreaking havoc on my wallet. I took a casual stroll past a Lush stand last week and walked out with an armful of yummy products, because who can resist limited edition things?
Today I’m reviewing 3 bath & body products – Rose Jam shower gel, Snow Fairy shower gel and the Sandy Santa body butter scrub.
Rose Jam has a sickly sweet scent, like the smell of roses but amped up x100. I say that in the best possible way, because my mouth waters every time I catch a whiff of this shower gel. Lush already has a range of Rose Jam products that I love, so this is a welcome addition to the lineup, even if it is limited edition. Unlike Ro’s Argan Body Conditioner, the scent isn’t overpowering, and doesn’t linger all day, nauseating everyone who comes within 5 metres of you. It has just enough staying power to be uplifting and make you want to sniff yourself occasionally while you’re at work. Or is that just me? *slinks away*
Snow Fairy smells exactly like fairy floss. If you’ve tried the Bubblegum lip scrub, it’s the same scent. Absolutely delicious. It’s creamy and pink (it actually reminds me of children’s cough syrup), and there’s some iridescent blue shimmer settled at the bottom, which I’m slowly distributing through the rest of the gel by shaking vigorously.
You don’t need a photo of what the gels actually look like out of the bottle, do you? Well, here’s one anyway.
Both shower gels lather up really well in my shower pouf, and you only need a tiny bit. They do contain Sodium Laureth Sulfate, so take note if that’s a concern for you.
I also laughed at the ‘How to Use’ instructions on Rose Jam: “If you really don’t know how, then we suggest you find someone you really like and invite them into the shower with you to demonstrate.” Anyone up for the challenge of using this as a pickup line?
Sandy Santa is a sugar scrub and body butter rolled into one. The idea of a sandy Santa seems particularly apt for Australia! It has coconut oil and shea butter, and has a light citrus scent from the Brazilian orange oil. The sugar granules are quite big so it’s very scrubby (perfect for getting rid of flaky winter skin) and it leaves behind a light oily residue so there’s no need to moisturise after your shower.
Lush advises you to break off a piece, wet it, and scrub it over any dry skin that needs scrubbing, but I found it really difficult to break off a piece with my bare hands. An alternative is to just use it whole, but then it would melt quickly in the water and that would be a massive waste. So I cut it up into small chunks and put them into containers. Having a lid on the container also means it’s protected from any spray from the shower as well, so there’s no danger of premature melting.
These products are available at Lush in store and online now, and are limited edition for the Christmas period. Prices are:
Rose Jam & Snow Fairy shower gels: $9.95/100g, $16.50/250g, $29.95/500g
Sandy Santa body butter scrub: $6.50
